BEVERLY COLEMAN TENNIS ACADEMY

BCTA Physical Fitness and Training Program

The BCTA fitness program is an essential part of the tennis academy. There are 3 different levels of training intensity between the recreational players, The Farm Team players and THE ELITE TEAM players, but each contains the basic 4 essentials:

  1. Warm up and Stretching 3 to 5 minutes of calisthenics, footwork drills on court and then stretching

  2. Tennis Practice and Drills including an endless array of tennis- specific drills and play

  3. Conditioning in both aerobic and anaerobic exercises

  4. Cool Down with light stretching and flexibility movements

Beverly Coleman Tennis Academy The BCTA is proud and fortunate to have Mary Bente, Educator, Administrator, Athlete and Fitness Professional at the helm of providing a modern, safe and effective fitness component for our after school, player development and parent programs.

Mary Bente recently retired after working 30 years as a science teacher, high school principal, and a middle school principal from upstate New York. With parks and recreation programs, she offered adolescents summer outdoor skill and backpacking opportunities. At age 50, she climbed to Everest Base Camp at 17,300 feet in Nepal, and she reached the summit of the 19,339 foot Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. She has run several road races and is a tennis, running, hiking, (road and mountain) and biking enthusiast.

Mary is also certified in the areas of personal training (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) and CPR. Her professional services as a personal trainer are available at the Sedona Hilton Resort & Spa or through her own personal training business, Roadrunner Fitness, Personal Trainer at Your Doorstep. (To contact Mary personally, visit our "Sponsors" page). She'll bring her very personalized service, expertise and fitness equipment to your home or office so that you have the benefit of a customized fitness routine that best suits your lifestyle.

Mary's love of the outdoors is further enhanced by her love of tennis. As a USTA member for many years, she has played on USTA teams in New York and Arizona. As we watch the top tennis players in their pursuit of professional success we can see that fitness has become an absolute requirement. In fact, our entire culture is becoming more conscious of the need for fitness - beginning with children. Mary's lifelong experience as an educator, athlete and (now) personal trainer make her the perfect person to determine what and how to incorporate more fitness elements into the BCTA programs
