Every young person enrolled in The Academy is expected to know and follow
these rules of Etiquette
—SAFETY—
BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR RACQUET! Don’t swing it when others are close
around you
“CLEAN HOUSE” (pick up balls) when there are balls on the court that you may trip
over
—RESPECT—
BE COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL to yourself, each other, the coaches and all of the people
who come to watch or help you
RESPECT YOUR RACQUET Do not throw, bang or step on your racquet. When you are not using your racquet, stand it against the fence
NO LOUD TALKING, SCREAMING on or around the courts when others are playing a match
DO NOT WALK THROUGH OR AROUND A COURT while others are playing a match
—COURT BEHAVIOR WHEN PLAYING TENNIS—
QUICKLY PICK UP THE BALLS after each point when you are playing a match. Put them in your pocket or hit them softly right to the server
WHEN YOUR OPPONENT HITS A GREAT SHOT, it is good sportsmanship to give them credit by saying “nice shot” or “too good”
CALL ONLY THE BALLS ON YOUR SIDE OF THE NET It is important to be honest and fair so that your calls will be trusted and you will have the reputation of “good sportsmanship”
WHEN A BALL FROM ANOTHER COURT IS ACCIDENTALLY HIT ONTO YOUR COURT, stop immediately and return it. (You may replay your own point)
THE SERVER SHOULD SAY THE SCORE AFTER EACH POINT
BE ON TIME for your matches and classes. Make a phone call if you are going to be late
